My heart is aching today. For all the loss I’ve watched and experienced recently… for all the relationship struggles I’ve witnessed… for all the anger, judgement, silence, heartache, pain, sadness, ignorance. This year surely has brought about the biggest shit storm I’ve ever seen in my 37 years. So many families, individuals, beautiful souls forever changed by these shifts. It’s as if humanity is being cracked wide open. And yet, nature lives on. More …

More life. Always.

It’s often hard to see the light while we are witnessing the darkness. Our current situation seems so massive and all-encompassing that it’s all we can focus on. (What a way to feel fully present in something!) And yet there is so much beauty in these moments. These intense seasons of sorrow or anger… or misunderstanding… They bring to the surface the very reason we as humans are so incredible: We are blessed with the power of emotion and choice.

I love Glennon Doyle Melton’s take… that,

“Life is brutal. But it’s also beautiful…Life’s brutal and beautiful are woven together so tightly that they can’t be separated. Reject the brutal, reject the beauty. So now I embrace both, and I live well and hard and real.”

I’ve done a lot of reflecting lately, due to these occurrences in my life. And I’ve concluded that the only option at times like these is to trust. Fiercely. We can question and wonder and try to figure out why something like this would happen. Why now? Why my family? But those answers will only be revealed with time. So what then can we do but trust? Trust that there must be a greater purpose at play. Trust that our God, the Universe, is not cruel. Trust that things will get better and all will be clear soon, for this is the path our soul has chosen. And trust that there must be a gift somewhere in this (presently seeming) hell.

I cannot count the number of times I’ve felt similar feelings of sadness, and loss, and confusion as a business owner. And every time those feelings come up – I choose to trust. It isn’t always easy – as I’m sure you can relate – but it is what gets me through.

We are all in this together. This beautiful, messy, insanely rich journey called life. And we are so incredibly powerful.  We are so incredibly brave. And I believe that it is through these times that require incredible trust, that our truest beauty beams.

My heart is with all of you experiencing loss, confusion, or uneasiness in life. I pray that in these times of heartache you can muster the courage to look closely, and discover the beauty waiting to be found.
